Farewell dinner for David Limb from US office
Today finally farewell dinner for our dear warehouse consultant David Limb, a Korean American who was here past 3 weeks to handover project to my new colleague. He is very nice and humourous. In fact I believe most of you would agree that the photo we took together we are very much alike, can say we are like brother and sister. :D

We had dinner at this luxurious restaurant "Tung Lok Signature" at Central. This one is far much better than the one at Viviocity we ate last year. The price is also very expensive. I enjoyed every dish. Specially loved the fish dish, fried oyster with salted egg, and deep fry rice with sea mantis (Lai Liu Har ) and the complimentary fruit juice (orange, combination of carrot, lime and strawberry). The last dessert sesame with almond ice cream was also nice as its not sweet and really enjoy it.

My "Crumpler" dreambags

I own 3 "Crumpler" bags:

1 red oversized bag I bought very recently.

I love "Crumpler" due to the striking colors and its very lasting. Can carry weight unlike some bags I bought after a month start to slowly tear.

1 green camera bag (Its medium size) for my camera and accessories

1 small light green/black bag (for storing memory cards, hp etc)

Now I am targetting on following, I wish my company shares go up that I can get one of these blue ones. They are suitable to carry notebooks and books and can carry heavy stuff.

Sinking barge (priced > sgd 250)

Hee-goer (priced > sgd 200)

女生包包太重 影响颈背
Especially for 'Fang Mei' who owns an extremely oversized bag and loads of stuff:

Voluminous bags are proving to be a health hazard due to their potential in inflicting back and shoulder injuries on their users.

Dr Serene Ng, 36, a chiropractor from Integrative Chiropractic, said, “One shoulder can become bigger than the other due to an uneven distribution of weight. Carrying your bag on one shoulder strengthens the trapezius muscle there, which causes one side of the muscles to become bulkier than the other. Over time, it can result in a lop-sided body position.”

Dr Ng warns that the situation is worsened when you clutch your handphone to your ear while carrying a heavy bag. The muscle puts up with increased pressure, which may result in cervical radiculopathy, a condition characterised by the damage of nerve function.

For those whose penchant for big bags is unwavering, Dr Ng recommends investing in one that is made of a soft and flexible material with wide straps.

“When your bag is hard and rigid, it doesn’t allow much body movement. A pliable bag, on the other hand, accommodates the shape of your ribs and allows proper trunk rotation. This helps by preventing you from swaying more to one side,” she said. She encourages users to carry different bags from time to time. By doing so, the body is not burdened in the same position with the same weight all the time.

P/S: I just bought an oversized RED CRUMPLER bag for putting my notebook and other important stuff but I only carry it like 2-3 times a week and ensure that its not too heavy. But with my current exercises I am able to carry the bag without feeling too heavy or exhausted.

Movie at Vivio Golden Village Gold ticket
Today I was asked by my colleague if I want to take extra ticket from our Sales dept for the Movie "The Jumper". Oops today I am suppose to go home early to cook dinner and collect my 2 skirts which I send to change new zippers. Now I am not sure if I should take the offer but I just asked my colleague to pass me the extra ticket first. I will find someone if I cannot go.

After I collect the extra ticket from my colleague realised its $25 gold ticket where I can sit in nice seat and whole cinema 2 was booked by my company for their distributions meeting. Distributors from whole of Asia such as HK, Taiwan, China, Japan, S.Korea and Singapore met for sales meeting.

I realised I do not know anyone from sales except the female Sales Manager so I manage to get her to include me in their car to go Vivio since its quite far from office. After reach Vivio we sat together with the Worldwide Sales Director a Singaporean man. He is very gentlemen and charming shook my hand and thank me for taking the last minute ticket from them. Someone from finance unable to make it so I am taking over the Finance manager's ticket.

Then the Director ordered white wine for us and also requested for seafood basket to be served to us as we have not taken dinner. Felt really relax and comfy sitting at the lounge area as more and more distributors arrived and sat around the area. As we mingle we have calamari, potato wedges, chicket dumplets, fried prawns but they are not filling.

When we are later asked to enter cinema for the movie, we ordered other drinks and I ordered egg sandwich while my other colleague ordered salsa bread, a turkish delicacy. When my sandwich was served I realised its too big portion so I ended sharing with my colleague. But the setback was not the food or drinks but the movie.

Earlier I have read poor review in the papers and did not go for this movie. Since its free this time I just watch but found the show kinda confusing, short and no meaning. I got lost in between especially when the guy jump between many different locations. I am confused and bored. I cannot believe it when someone from our Taiwan office kept saying "Very good movie. Very nice" to the Director which I doubted she understand what the movie was about. I guess most of the people who watch tonight were either confused or sleepy after the movie. Not
much sound when movie ended everyone just sat and kept quiet for at least 10 minutes. I am very sleepy especially after taken 3/4 glass of white wine and 1/3 glass of red wine.

Below is my review:

Entertainment : 2 stars
Storyline : 2.5 stars (no proper explanation about how the lead actor get the jump
ability from. How come mother is against jump yet have a son who
has this power)
Acting : 2 stars
-------------------------
Overall 2.25 stars

Which Shoes Should We Buy?
Today after ask my friend to read my blog entry about my sole came off from my NIKE's training shoes, she told me NOT TO buy NIKE shoes due to child labour. I went to do a search and found this and would like to share with everyone.

No wonder NIKE shoes when sale period always so cheap. Personally I prefer ADIDAS more than NIKE and their shoes more lasting. I will take note to STOP getting NIKE shoes as long as they are still using Child Labour.

Soccer Balls: Inflated with Hot Air?

by Campaign for Labor Rights, July 30-Sept. 10 1997

When the June, 1996 issue of Life magazine carried an article about child labor in Pakistan, Nike knew that it was in trouble. The article's lead photograph showed 12-year-old Tariq hunkered over the hexagonal pieces of a Nike soccer ball which he would spend most of a day stitching together for the grand sum of 60 cents. In a matter of weeks, activists all across Canada and the United States were standing in front of Nike outlets, holding up Tariq's photo.

"It's an ages-old practice," was the blythe defense from Nike's Donna Gibbs, referring to the use of bonded child labor in Pakistan. But, as Max White of Justice: Do It Nike noted, "Nike went into Pakistan, knowing full well that child labor is an ages-old practice there and taking no precautions whatsoever to prevent the use of child labor in the production of its soccer balls. We have to conclude that Nike expected to profit from its Pakistani contractors' known usage of bonded child labor."

You also discovered that Michael Jordan earns more than $30 million for playing basketball and even more for endorsing products.

Michael Jordan's line of Nike sneakers are made by children in Indonesia working for 19 cents an hour.

Estimates by human rights experts are that there are as many as 200 million children under the age of 14 who are working full-time. Because these children are paid little and do not receive an education, they have little chance of breaking the cycle of poverty in which they are caught.
Children are typically paid one-half to one-third what is paid to adults doing comparable work.

The children are often exposed to significant health hazards and subjected to extreme physical, verbal and even sexual abuse. While many children work to add to the family income, others are literally sold into bondage by their parents in return for money or credit. In these countries children are widely employed in restaurants, canteens, garages, tanneries, and brick kilns where they work for up to 15 hours a day, without leave for months together. Those working as household help are just slightly better off.

Children begin work at the age of nine or ten, and enter full-time waged labour after leaving primary school at the age of 12 or 13. Most children work full-time, seven hours per day, and six days a week. In general, children are paid 6,000 to 9,000 Indonesian rupiahs (approximately $3.40 - $5.10) per week.

At the age of 4, Iqbal was sold into bonded labour by his father for $12. For six years he was forced to work 16 hours a day in a carpet factory.
Children are used extensively in the carpet and soccer ball industries because their small hands and nimble fingers enable them to become particularly adept at weaving and stitching. Although Pakistan has put laws in effect to restrict the use of child labour, the government lacks the resources to enforce them. The lack of any federal requirement for compulsory education is also a major factor contributing to the continued use of child labour.

A local store manager says: "How else can we manage if we have to sell our stuff cheap?" (I WILL REMIND MYSELF NOT TO BUY CHEAP SHOES JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE USING CHILD LABOUR TO CUT COST)

19th Fitness Training
Today had my 19th fitness training. Put on my new gloves which I bought from Nike store on sunday and it was not so comfortable but I am able to do more strength training without my hands turning red and painful.

While I was doing the exercises suddenly my training shoes (bought this shoes 2 years ago but seldom wear and now am wearing 2nd time for training) the sole came off. I did not realise it was from my right shoe so I just kick it under the machine. But Mike saw it and help me to pick it up then asked if its from my shoe. Told him I dunno but then he check and see and said yeah its from your shoe. Well I learn not to wear old shoe for trainings especially if Mike is there. :P

Quite embarassing moment coz Mike asked me where did I buy the new shoes from why so easily the sole came off. I told Mike this is old shoe lah just that seldom wear. Then he pass me the piece of sole to me and ask me to bring back as souvenir (grrrrrrrrrrrrr!)

Well I went to NTUC to get glue and just glue them back. I have another pair of old sneakers which I also need to glue the sole back. Somehow it seems that only NIKE sneakers were like that and happen both Nike shoes I own were like that. In future I will have to check and ensure not similar kind of sole. Else same thing would happen again. After I used up 80% of the glue to glue back 2 pairs of 2 years old sneakers I leave it to dry. Hopefully it sticks and no more embarassing moment.

After cancelling my friday training, Mike arranged for me on Sat 3 pm for replacement. Today's training was so so tiring. After Mike said this is all I was so delighted finally I can go bath change and go have my dinner.

Mike asked if my diet is back to normal? I told him I only eat rice twice a week and its about half the amount I take last time. He nod and told me remember to eat more
as now my metabolisme is higher and I do need to eat a bit more to have strength for tougher trainings. Yes Mike ! I will but I do not want to eat too much rice to prevent from over eating so I will still control my diet.

Bump into my old church friend
Today I am at AMK Hub level 3 food court for dinner. While I was walking towards my favourite fish soup counter someone called me "Pat, sit here !" I looked around and saw Doreen my old church friend. Well I have not seen her since I left my old church July 2003. I request to transfer church when I moved to work in Woodlands and study at SIM for my master degree. Between mid 2003 to mid 2005 I have been so busy with work and coping for my part-time studies I have not much time for keeping in touch with friends nor going out with friends.

Doreen was just married when I left my old church and was few months pregnant. Now her son is 4 years old. How time flies. I put my bag down and went to get myself fish soup. I eat my dinner while chatting with Doreen who also just finished her dinner. She said she has put on weight in compared to before and talk about what she has been doing.

After dinner I bought Doreen drink at Toastbox level 1. We continued to chat. Doreen is still working for same company in Pasir Ris in the finance dept. She just hired a Filipino maid to take care of her son after her son's nanny quit. She talked about her recent conversion to Singaporean together with her son. She find it much more convenient and asked me when I will do the same (Hmm have not think about this now).

Then she talked about her family in Penang. Her parents and her niece died in the Tsunami tragedy in Penang end 2004. Her mother just helped her with her confinement before return to Penang and went to beach with 9 other family members but ended up a fatal tragedy together with husband and grand daughter.

This is sad, reminded me of my coursemate who died in the same tragedy in Phuket. She and her whole family husband, 2 young sons and 2 months of baby. She was my Master coursemate in SIM who has applied leave to be with husband who was tranferred to US end 2003. Her husband and 3 children's body were not found after the tragedy.

After our drink and updates we called another old church friend Phoebe to arrange a meeting for dinner and to catchup. Phoebe is my ex colleague from another company which I worked for in 1993. I have known her since then for 15 years but we were not very close. Phoebe is a nice lady and brought me to her church and I accepted Christ then. But she is very active and always busy so I mix with many other friends in my old church. That is why though we know each other very long but were not very close.
Waiting for meeting up soon. :)

Other health tips

Eat Less Later in the Day

Everyone knows, whether they want to admit it or not, reducing calories will help you to lose weight. However, just as you should reduce the calorie intake, you need to know when to eat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the one meal that should not be missed. Lunch should be healthy but a less than what you ate for breakfast. As you approach dinner, eat healthy but light. Avoid after dinner snacks or eating before bed!

Saucy but Healthy

Eating bland foods is boring, unsatisfying, and if that is what your diet consists of, more than likely, you will be off it shortly after you start. If you enjoy good tasting food, some sauces and spices can enhance your food while not adding calories to your food. The next you grill meat, consider using one of these:
• Reduced-salt Soy Sauce• Mustard• Salsa• Worcestershire Sauce• Vinegar (this comes in wonderful flavors)• Teriyaki Sauce• Tomato Sauce• Hot Sauce

Supplements and Vitamins

While some supplements and vitamins on the market are not worth buying and some, such as Ephedrine, have been proven dangerous, other sources are healthy. Most important, you need to understand what it is you are taking, and strictly follow dosage just as you would medication that has been prescribed. If you are unsure, check with your physician, a nutritionist, or a reputable health food store. Many supplements that are good for overall health include grape seed extract, Glucosamine, aloe vera, and Selenium. Vitamins to consider would include Vitamin E, Vitamin C, B-12, Iron, Magnesium, and Calcium.

Eliminate Stress
You have probably heard this before. Stress is a key contributor to poor health. Study after study has found that when a person is stressed, the body reacts. The result of stress could be high-blood pressure, tension headaches, upset stomachs, poor posture, and so on. Keeping stress in check will help you manage your overall health much better.

ZZZZZZZZZZZ
Does sleep really affect health? You bet it does. During sleep, your body is resting and recovering from all the work is has done throughout the day. Your serotonin levels are brought back in line, your muscles relax, and mind is allowed to clear itself in preparation for the next day. If you are not getting the proper amount of sleep, you will notice it in a physical way. While there is no magic number, usually between six and eight hours a night is appropriate. If you have difficulty getting to sleep, before you climb into bed, try Yoga, listening to soft, relaxing music, a glass of wine, or if you can talk someone into it, a good massage.

Laugh it Off
The medical field has proven that laughter actually works with your body toward good health. Have you ever heard the expression, “Laughter is the best medicine”? The truth is, when you laugh, several positive things happen. Your muscles relax; stress hormone product is reduced; you forget about pain; your body’s immune system is improved; high-blood pressure is lowered; the heart and lungs are strengthened; and overall, you feel better!

Nutrition
People often confuse “dieting” with nutrition. Your body needs to have nutrients replaced, whether through foods being eaten or supplements. Do you remember what you learned in elementary school about the four major food groups? As adult, eating balanced meals from these groups still applies. It is important to remove the “junk food” from your diet and stick with healthy foods. If you do not like certain things such as fruits or vegetables, be sure you are taking a supplement to get the nutrients needed. Another consideration is if you are a vegetarian. There are certain benefits taken from meat such as iron and B-12 that you should consider taking a supplement for in exchange for the meat.

10 tips to healthy eating and physical activies
Good to share with everyone.

Start your day with breakfast.
Breakfast fills your "empty tank" to get you going after a long night without food. And it can help you do better in school. Easy to prepare breakfasts include cold cereal with fruit and low-fat milk, whole-wheat toast with peanut butter, yogurt with fruit, whole-grain waffles or even last night's pizza!

Get Moving!
It's easy to fit physical activities into your daily routine. Walk, bike or jog to see friends. Take a 10-minute activity break every hour while you read, do homework or watch TV. Climb stairs instead of taking an escalator or elevator. Try to do these things for a total of 30 minutes every day.
Snack smart.Snacks are a great way to refuel.

Choose snacks from different food groups - a glass of low-fat milk and a few graham crackers, an apple or celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins, or some dry cereal. If you eat smart at other meals, cookies, chips and candy are OK for occasional snacking.

Work up a sweat.Vigorous work-outs
- when you're breathing hard and sweating - help your heart pump better, give you more energy and help you look and feel best. Start with a warm-up that stretches your muscles. Include 20 minutes of aerobic activity, such as running, jogging, or dancing. Follow-up with activities that help make you stronger such as push-ups or lifting weights. Then cool-down with more stretching and deep breathing.

Balance your food choices -
Don't eat too much of any one thing. You don't have to give up foods like hamburgers, french fries and ice cream to eat healthy. You just have to be smart about how often and how much of them you eat. Your body needs nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, fat and many different vitamins and minerals such as vitamins C and A, iron and calcium from a variety of foods. Balancing food choices from the Food Guide Pyramid and checking out the Nutrition Facts Panel on food labels will help you get all these nutrients.

Get fit with friends or family.
Being active is much more fun with friends or family. Encourage others to join you and plan one special physical activity event, like a bike ride or hiking, with a group each week.

Eat more grains, fruits and vegetables.
These foods give you carbohydrates for energy, plus vitamins, minerals and fiber. Besides, they taste good! Try breads such as whole-wheat, bagels and pita. Spaghetti and oatmeal are also in the grain group. Bananas, strawberries and melons are some great tasting fruits. Try vegetables raw, on a sandwich or salad.

Join in physical activities.
Whether you take a physical education class or do other physical activities at school, such as intramural sports, structures activities are a sure way to feel good, look good and stay physically fit.

Foods aren't good or bad.
A healthy eating style is like a puzzle with many parts. Each part -- or food -- is different. Some foods may have more fat, sugar or salt while others may have more vitamins or fiber. There is a place for all these foods. What makes a diet good or bad is how foods fit together. Balancing your choices is important. Fit in a higher-fat food, like pepperoni pizza, at dinner by choosing lower-fat foods at other meals. And don't forget about moderation. If two pieces of pizza fill you up, you don't need a third.

Make healthy eating and physical activities fun!
Take advantage of physical activities you and your friends enjoy doing together and eat the foods you like. Be adventurous - try new sports, games and other activities as well as new foods. You'll grow stronger, play longer, and look and feel better! Set realistic goals - don't try changing too much at once.

Food Guide Pyramid
Food Guide Pyramid is a practical tool to help you make food choices that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines. Using the Pyramid enables you to eat a variety of foods daily so that you can get the nutrients you need.
To make the most of the Pyramid, you need to know what counts as a serving.

Food Group:
VegetableServing Size: 1 cup raw, leafy vegetables, 1/2 cup cooked or chopped raw vegetables or 3/4 cup vegetable juice

BreadServing Size: 1 slice bread, 1/2 bagel or English muffin, 1 ounce ready-to-eat cereal, 1/2 cup cooked cereal, rice or pasta, or 5-6 small crackers

FruitServing Size: 1 medium piece of fruit, 1/2 cup mixed fruit or 3/4 cup fruit juice

MilkServing Size: 1 cup milk or yogurt, 1-1/2 ounces natural cheese or 2 ounces process cheese

MeatServing Size: 2-3 ounces cooked lean meat, poultry or fish (about the size of a deck of cards.)

Other foods which count as 1 ounce meat; 1/2 cup cooked dry beans, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons peanut butter or 1/2 cup nuts

18th fitness training
Today is my 18th fitness training. How time flies, now my training difficulties have increased. I have to pull heavier weight (35kg ~ 80 lbs). Mike would start from 10kg slowly to 25kg that would be 4-5 rounds of similar weight trainings. I was also asked to do push up and to hold on to 30 secs 3 times. Somehow it was done in 20 mins and towards the end. It seems that only the 1st time I cold hold 30 secs subsequently I could only hold on to 20-25 secs. I was too tired, could even hardly breath. (haha)
I hope tomorrow I will not feel too much pain. I have already put a few Japanese plaster around my thigh areas. :P

AI7 - Top 24 performance and results

Top 12 Men performance:

From the 12 men I only like a few performances this week. The contestant with long curlyhair (Jason Castro), Cook and David Archuletar that I have the best impression.

More than 2 are deserved to be out this week.

Did not like Chikezee, Jason Yeager, Gareth and Colton

RESULTS:

GARETH is out ! COLTON 2ND TO BE OUT!

Top 12 Women performance:

Alaina surprised me, her song start slow but later pick up. She look slightly like Carrie Underwood but not as pretty as Carrie.

Rocker chick was good too but I am not fan of rock so not my favourite but her performance was great and she is unique.

Brooke White - She was good but started poorly. She has own style.

Alexandrea - A great performer but Simon said her vocal was normal and very caberat

Kady - She has a great voice but she does not look enjoy while her performance

Ramiele - She has the best voice of the night despite her size, my favourite performance of this week as well as the judges

Carly - Was sick but her voice still great. But I do agree with Simon this time she was not impressive

I could only think of one AMY DAVIS who should be out of next round as they performed better than the males for this week.

RESULTS:

AMY DAVIS OUT !

JOANNA 2ND TO BE OUT ! TOO BAD I DO LIKE HER BUT NOT THIS WEEK.

Paula's new video was great ! Missed her already! Randy is cool too!

I have a CAREFUL HEART and SOCIABLE and LOVEABLE?
This is exactly how I am when I was doing the quiz for "What type of Heart do you have" in facebook. I got this results and following is the description.

You take your time and do not fall in love easily. You give 50% in a relationship, and expect 50% in return. You like to handle your problems directly and immediately. You are alright with not seeing him/her so often. you expect the person to change for you.You measure your desire to whomever you love by the amount of desire he shows you.You fall out of love easily.

Stylish, Smart, or Social: Which Are You?

I love social people! they are so easy to get along with! if your social well done because most social people are nice otherwise they wouldn't be social! you keep your head screwed on when your in a large group! good for you!

What Type Of Girl Are You?

The Girl Everyone Loves To Be Around: Your the type of girl that cares about everyone and excepts aol different personality's. You love making new friends and would NEVER hurt the one's you have. Your a very social person who often hangs around many types of people. Your honest and trustworthy and your friends can always trust your instincts.

First measurement after 15 Fitness trainings
Finally come to half way of the fitness trainings. Mike requested me not to EAT or DRINK when come to yesterday's training. He would like to measure my fat level and weight to compare results.

I was so thirsty and hungry and Mike asked me why. I said you told me not to EAT and DRINK wat coz you want to do measuremet today. And you know what he forgot. "Aya lucky you reminded me", Mike said. Then I was asked to remove shoes and socks and my watch. Mike told me I am suppose not to EAT and DRINK 15 mins before the weight measurement!

Walao Eh. I feel like 'boxing' Mike man. Made me so thirsty and hungry.
All he did is laugh grrrrr......................!

Now back to my weight measurement:

Tada !!

My weight loss is 5.1 kg and fat loss is 6% and Mike was surprised with this results within 7 weeks. He said its a very good measurement and that he would like me to help write good review for him (Walao, I told Mike you not writing and just ask my permission ma need me to write??) Anyway I still have long way to go coz I only reach meeting 35% of the weight and fat loss.
I have another 9.9 kg and 14% fat to loose.

Anyway I thought I can relax a bit but to my dismay, Mike increase the training difficulties and added weight for my trainings. I am not happy !!! Coz I got appointment and I need to finish training at 7 pm else I would be very late. Halfway through the trainings realised that I was too tired and my hands start to shake coz I was too hungry since I did not take anything before came for training not even a sip of water.

Then after finish doing all the weights in 50 mins, Mike told me "Pat, I want you to do more cardios. Pls continue do cross training on your own for another 30 minutes".

I was shocked I reconfirm by asking "What? 30 minutes?"

Mike looked at me in his serious expressions "YEAH! 30 minutes GO!"

Horrible terrible Mike. I have appointment at 7 pm and now he want me do 30 mins. So I did cycling for 15 mins and another 7 minutes on walker and I just rushed to take bath and change. I did only 22 mins instead of 30 and I saw Mike standing far looking at me running out to reception to checkout.

I DON'T HECK CARE !

Which offer should I accept?
This week not sure why more than 2 of my friends and male approached me for advise regarding their career options. They have more than one offers and unable to decide which offer to take. Well I am not a HR consultant but based on my experience and my contacts I shall try to help give some advise. But friends, decision is still yours as its your career not mine.

Some of the tips:

a. Compare the pay package and benefits between the 2 companies
b. Find out what is the company direction, will you be able to grow with the company and is the company financially stable for at least 3-10 years
c. What are you looking for in the new job
d. Find out organization structure, who are you reporting to, have you met your future boss etc
e. Find out from your friends and contacts if anyone work in that company before or know someone who used to work there if its what you think you know from the interviews.

Follow your instincts, do not be influenced by just the looks or pay package. Take sometime to consider before you sign.

Today I am known as WONDERWOMAN
Today a long day and conference day. Woke up 5 am and start email using my blackberry to India developer who is working PST time. Then took a cab to office arrive around 6.30 am and start to startup computer setup meeting place and conference with developer at 7am. Then Principal developer in US emailed me to check status and if India developer contacted me.

To summarize this project of mine delayed by 2 months due to developer was on sick leave for a month, on leave to visit sick dad for another 3 weeks and then leave again one week for brother's wedding and another few days for sick son. Practically very little time spent on project and here I am jumping every week as I am not able to work on other big projects until
this is settled.

After finished conference just 5 minutes break without any time for coffee or breakfast I join the 2 hours conference for 2008 IT project meeting for our team of 27 analysts from US, Singapore and India. After a few boring presentations finally I am awake

News - girl who took bullet from mother

To many people, the soft-spoken 7-year-old is a hero after she threw herself across her mother just as a gunman was about to shoot the woman in an SUV.
"An angel is what I call her," Seliethia Parker said of her daughter.
After more than two months in the hospital and six surgeries, Alexis was recently released. She returns twice a week for physical therapy.

The young girl bears several scars from the December 2 shooting, including a long, thin surgical line stretching from one side of her hairline to the other. Her right eye, which was blinded in the attack, has also been removed. During rehabilitation, she rides a bicycle designed to be pedaled with a person's hands and plays hand-eye coordination games.

"I'll be good for therapy," Alexis promised her mother before bounding back to the games. Alexis speaks little about the shooting. "She remembers bits and pieces, but she's not really talking about it much. It's like she's blocking it out or something," said Parker, 30.

The mother and daughter were getting a ride from a friend when Parker's former boyfriend emerged from the shadows outside Parker's house and jumped into the vehicle. He then forced the friend to drive at gunpoint for several minutes.
Under the pretense of needing fuel, Parker's friend stopped at a Detroit gas station to call 911.

Inside the SUV, Parker pleaded with the gunman not to shoot. As he was about to open fire, Alexis cried, "Don't hurt my mother!" and jumped into her mother's arms from the back seat. Despite her daughter's efforts, Parker was shot twice.

Alexis is learning-disabled and lags behind other youngsters her age. As a result, police say, it may never be known whether Alexis meant to shield her mother from the bullets. But Parker has said that if her daughter had not put herself in between she might have been killed.

Fitness training - weighing and measure time
Yesterday I went gym myself after cancelling tuesday's session due to back pain. Strangely the pain which could be cause by strained muscle pain moved down to my buttock area after the back pain is gone. While I was exercising on the Stepper, Mike came back from his dinner and saw me. He came to ask how was my back pain if it is still painful to see if its serious. After explanations he said the pain is common just need to take some rest.

So Mike suggested tonight's session to have no more "weight" lifting and do something which will not strain my back muscle. He would like me not to drink and eat before come for training tonight. He is going to have measurement done for me. Taking weight and calculating my fat %. HoHoHo! I just realised 15 sessions completed which is half the package I signed for one to one trainer.

I am curious myself how many % fat I have lost so far. The last weight I have done myself was 2 weeks ago right before I leave for Malaysia before CNY. And strangely today is last day of CNY.

Why do people get married or stay single?
Recently kept in touch with old colleagues and realised time flies. Its been 6 years I last contact with them. Now most of them are married and some have more than one child. One of them who were married for 6 years finally had a baby and told me when is my turn. Well, I have no plans. Somehow I enjoy my single life now and never plan to start family.

If I ever decide to settle down I find that I prefer not to have children or perhaps marry a man who has children from previous marriage (KAKAKA). Maybe I am crazy but I prefer to have peaceful life and enjoy my life and do things I enjoy doing without having to be tied down by many things.

Then this male ex colleague of mine asked me a very sensitive question. He asked if I decided to stay single and enjoy "one night stand" and no relationships. Well just some briefing about him he is my best pal during my last job in Malaysia before I work in Singapore. He married a wife who is of English and chinese parentage and spend few years in UK to study and work before he move back to Malaysia in 2004. That's why he is pretty open minded in this sense.

Honestly I find it rather offensive to ask me this way but I told him that I go church regularly and serving at nursery once a month. With this I strongly oppose to "One Night Stand" and this is definitely not the reason for me to remain single. My friend apologised to me after I clarified this and said that he did not believe I am like that but just that he lost touch with me for so long and thought maybe I might have changed since we last chat in 2004.

This made me think of recent "Edison Chen" scandal. Since he spend a number of years studying overseas and live a rich and famous lifestyle I would not comment on his sleeping around with so many females and have the interest to take such photos which is pretty obscene to many of us Asians. But the females involved with him who are not officially his girlfriend, I do not sympathize with most of them not even a bit. If they are below 20 at the time when taking the photos I might believe they are too naive but most of them have photos taken are above 20 years old and they seem to enjoy taking them. One in particular have been taking such photos for a period few years looking at different hairstyle in the photos. Who to blame? No one but themselves.

Last night boss informed that our team is going for Korean BBQ at Dempsey Road tonight. I am supposed to be going for fitness training,
thought perhaps I will skip tonight's dinner. But last night while watching "L" my back still hurts badly. I had to get my friend to help apply YOKO YOKO in female toilet since I cannot reach my back. When I reach home I still feel pain so decided to inform Mike to cancel the training.

Mike replied to me within 5 mins that its fine to cancel. So I can join my team for dept dinner with American born Korean consultant who is leaving us 1st March. He was here to handover project to my new colleague before he leave my company.

HK famous host and actress Lydia Sum passed away
Today heard the news that Lydia Sum passed away in HK hospital. She has been sick past few years. I still remember in Aug 2006 while I was having holiday in HK and shopping at Peninsular, she walked pass me and my colleagues holding and talking on her mobile.

We wanted to approach her but she move away. That time I realised she was short and much smaller size than on tv. Only to realised about a month later she was hospitalized. She could have look thinner due to sickness.

Hope her daughter can carry on her life well after her mother's passing away. She has learn to be better person after Lydia's sickness unlike previous where she has been reported to be with different boy friends and having more wild life back in Canada.

Recent tv appearance where the late Lydia Sum presented with TVB lifetime achievement award. Many Mediacorp artiste were in tears :

Japanese Movie Review - "L" Change the world
For those who watched the famous Japanese movies "Death Note" and "Death Note 2" will
be looking forward to "L". I got the preview movie ticket from a friend and watch it with my friend and colleague. Being fan of "L" I find the movie did not disappoint. I enjoy the 2 new
characters the little boy Mathmatics genius and the 12 year old girl Mika.

I never read the original book nor the animation so I cannot compare it with the original but
I rather enjoyed the 2 hrs 15 mins of this movie. "L" is super cute and cool.

It is sad thinking that "L" died eventually as he wrote his name on the last page of Death Note
but he is cute character.

15th fitness class
I have just completed half of my one to one training sessions at fitness center after 7 weeks. Mike was down with flu and we just had one session last week. Yesterday it was the toughest training. The weight I used to carry 20kg has increased to 25-30kg. After the training I felt normal but today afternoon somehow my whole body, palm, back and thighs were aching. I had to apply YOKO YOKO all over the aching area, thanks to the creator of this medicine. if not I believe I had to suffer and cannot lie down to sleep tonight. Hopefully tomorrow this ache be gone.

Important : Fast-food binge harms liver
Today saw this news at msn.com very alarming:

Fast-food binge harms liver, but boosts good cholesterol: study

But investigators, reporting their findings on Thursday, were also stunned to find that a relentless regimen of burgers, fries and soda also boosted so-called good cholesterol, seen as a key measure of cardiovascular health.
Researchers in Sweden asked 12 men and six women in their twenties, all slim and in good health, to eat two meals per day at McDonalds, Burger King or other fast-food restaurants over four weeks.

The volunteers were also told to refrain from exercising. The goal was to increase body weight by 10 to 15 percent to measure the impact of an abrupt surge in calorie intake.

Levels of ALT increased sharply after only one week, and quadrupled on average over the entire period, said lead researcher Frederik Nystrom, a doctor at the University Hospital of Linkoping. AFP. "One of the subjects had to be withdrawn from the study because he had 10 times the normal ALT levels.

Two of the individuals had liver steatosis, or fatty liver, in which fat cells build up dangerously in the liver, he said. Steatosis is associated with the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, which has taken on epidemic proportions, especially in industrialised countries.

Trainer down with flu
Walao just realised when leaving office today left my mobile at home. I tried to sms Mike to reconfirm training today using another mobile but no reply from him. I still went ahead for training, did not see sign of Mike. Aya I guess he likely not around maybe he did sms me but I did not bring the mobile.

I go ahead to exercise and burn 510 calories extra 10 calories :) Past by many restaurants at AMK Hub all full house. I went to eat at Food court then went to have my favourite Toastbox tea. I bought 10+2 free drink voucher and got one tikam. I got myself a free drink (Barley) that I can use next time valid till mid March.

The moment I reach home check my mobile and there was Mike's message "Dear guys and gals, I am sorry down with flu cannot train. See you all next session." Never mind lah coz I set 3 days exercise per week so I must still go even he cannot train. Hope Mike get well soon and can continue training me. Wish him fast recovery.

Dinner at Esplanade "MIRCHI" restaurant

Had dinner with US IT manager and DBA who came for 2 days visit while on way to India office.
Well I have been really busy since they are here having to work with US DBA to settle
system performance issues after recent software upgrade.

We had a wonderful Indian food at "MIRCHI" restaurant, level 2 Esplanade. The service was just average but food wise is above average.

The lamb meat was nice but a bit lacking in flavour. I skip naan as I do not want to over eat. Meanwhile I tasted 3 different rice taking about 2 tablespoon each.

One of it is normal briyani, lamb biryani and another sweet rice. The appetizers which comprises of
chicken, fish, lamb and vegetable was great. I love the chicken most and lamb least due to the
strong smell.

There is a funny incident where the US Manager who complaint the drink "Mango Lasi" which is yoghurt like drink tasted wierd and too sour. I actually advise him not to complain and order new drink as likely they will just put sugar and bring the same drink back. He laugh and later the waitress really brought the same drink back and inform him that sugar was added. He was so piss off that he repeated the same complain that the drink tasted wierd and he wants it replaced immediately with another drink :)

Comment from US manager
Recently I have many colleagues and even blue angels feedback that I have loose weight successfully at least its obvious that
I look more healthy.

Today one of the US IT managers came and its 4th time he see me since I work in this company, he asked me one question which surprises me.

He asked if I was fine why I loose so much weight? Well, he is a big man and maybe to him being big is beautiful :P I told him I am exercising recently and asked by doctor to loose weight.

I am happy very happy indeed coz at least other people feedback to me that my hard work pays.

Well, I still have long way to go to reach my target.
